PLEASE NOTE: THIS CONCERT IS A ‘DOUBLE-HEADER’ WITH DAVE BAINBRIDGE AND SALLY MINNEAR PLAYING THE FIRST SET, FOLLOWED BY DAMIAN WILSON AND ADAM WAKEMAN PLAYING AFTER THE BREAK. TICKETS WILL BE ON SALE FROM TUESDAY 29TH AUGUST 2017.

Dave Bainbridge will visit us in October as a member of the Electric Strawbs and here he joins forces with Lord of the Dance vocalist and fellow multi-instrumentalist Sally Minnear to bring a spellbinding evening of music that will, in equal measure, have you jigging in (or out of!) your seat or bringing a tear to your eye. A compelling mix of powerful and ethereal vocal songs (including the occasional emotive Gaelic ballad), instrumental tracks – jigs/reels/slow airs/evolving soundscapes and virtuoso improvisation on keyboards, electric guitar, bouzouki and cowbell! All held together with Dave’s humorous banter.

The idea was simple. To put together an entertaining mix of vocal and instrumental music, drawing upon Dave’s extensive back catalogue from his band Iona, his solo albums and the traditional Celtic material that both Dave and Sally love, also leaving room for plenty of spontaneous improvisation.

Tied together with humorous introductions, with an impressive array of instruments on stage, the aim was to be able to play in any size of venue, from house concert to concert hall to festival stage, retaining the same, intimate, relaxed atmosphere with the audience.

The duo has performed around the UK and has been thrilled at audience reaction so far.

Best known for his work with the pioneering UK based Celtic folk/rock/ambient band Iona, Dave Bainbridge’s multi-faceted career has led him into many musical genres and work with numerous artists including Troy Donockley, Jack Bruce, Buddy Guy, Gloria Gaynor, Mae McKenna, Moya Brennan, The Strawbs, ʻSnakeʼ Davis, Paul Jones and Robert Fripp.

Daughter of multi instrumentalist Kerry Minnear of the hugely respected and influential ʼ70ʼs progressive band Gentle Giant, Sally has been steeped in music throughout her life, with her brother and sister also being successful musicians. Sally had a minor hit with the song “For You” aged just 18, before forming the acoustic duo ʻCreatures of Habitʼ as a vehicle for her own songs.

After completing a music degree, during which time she played fiddle and sang in a popular traditional Irish band, Sally Minnear secured the featured vocalist role in Michael Flatleyʼs hugely successful dance spectacular ʻLord of the Danceʼ. Sally toured with the production for several years, in front of crowds of up to 20,000 people, before leaving to start a family. Recently she has also contributed vocals for several dance music tracks, for the band Mistyʼs Big Adventure and for Mexican guitarist Pablo Ortiz’s 2cd concept work Cronofonia (singing some parts in Spanish!). Sally recorded some wonderful, ethereal vocal parts on Dave Bainbridgeʼs epic second solo release Celestial Fire.
